Welcome to Singapore
We will start by appologising for seeming to put all Scandinavian countries in one lump (again) but it has very practicle reasons and we immediately invite you to become our editor if you are interested!
The fact is there are some shared activities from the various organisations. Please do let us know if you have any additions or comments on the below.
Social
Socially there is the quite a lot to do, because of the seafarers and some large multinationals there are all-in-all a number of Scandinavian expats (don't know the exact number but bumped into some!), there is an active social life and there are several 'Scandinavian' restaurants such as Akvavit and ofcourse the Ikea restaurant. For more information take a look at the following sites:
Scandinavian Women's Association in Singapore, "For you ladies who are new to Singapore and are interested in meeting some friendly Scandinavian people" (as they say themselves).
Swedish Women's Educational Association International, Inc. Singapore page (in Swedish)
The Finns in Singapore page of the Finnish Embassy.
Danske Sømandskirken i Singapore does not only cater to seafarers but also other Danish in Singapore.
Singapore page of the Norwegian Seamans Church.
Business
Trading-hub Singapore has a large number of foreign business associations, chambers of commerce etc. You may wish to visit:
Danish Business Association of Singapore
Swedish Business Association Singapore
A full listing of other associations and chambers can be found in our Singapore business contacts listing.
Schooling
There are no specific Danish, Norwegian or other schools in Singapore but there are a large number of International schools and there is some 'supplementary' education available for children. Please take a look at our
schools listing for more information on this subject.
Diplomatic Missions
All 4 countries featured here have an Embassy in Singapore, for details on their locations and website etc. please refer to our Embassies listing.
Post/Telephone
It is not terribly expensive to call to Europe (including Scandinavia) from Singapore. There are a number of telecoms supliers and there are different rate structures but a 'standard cheap' rate on a fixed line is S$0.39 per minute, more details on telecoms and costs in general can be found elsewhere on this site.
(Normal) Letters are between 5 and 10 working days on their way, sending a standard letter costs 1.10 Singapore Dollar.
