Below some short intro's for your various beach destinations, for more details on diving also check our 'diving from Singapore' pages and if you want to stay in Singapore go to 'Singapore beach life'.
Malaysia
- Tioman (West Malaysia); take a ferry, bus or plane and enjoy a quiet and still comparatively un-spoilt Island that still has all facilities. Lie by the pool, get a massage, go snorkeling and eat some good food. You can do it all, from basic to relatively luxurious.
- Penang (West Malaysia); Maybe a bit far for a regular weekend but Penang has some nice beaches, some hills, some temples and good food. Hotels from basic to luxury, a real nice getaway.
Desaru (West Malaysia); For a short while of doing nothing ... because there is really nothing much to do. Only an hour away from Singapore, take the ferry at Changi Ferry Terminal to Belungkor and the hotel will shuttle you further. Desaru faces the South China sea and is surrounded by palm plantations. A hotel like the Pulai will have a little spa, a bar, some restaurants and, important for the kids, a pool all else you can do is relax.- Kuching (East Malaysia); Kuching is a charming small town surrounded by jungle. You can book trips to see Orang Utang's and other natural wonders, have some forest hikes or sit at the beach. Again nice for a couple of days.
Indonesia
- Bali; Off course, close enough for a long weekend it is one of THE island destinations. Many hotels and resorts, great beaches and a lot of temples and countryside to see too.
- Batam; Very close to Singapore there are some decent hotels and beaches.
- Bintan; Close to Singapore with some good resorts but very geared to Singapore and sometimes you feel you are still in Singapore, better for golfing than the beach.
Thailand
- Phuket; another of THE beach destinations with great, yes, beaches and nice snorkeling and diving. Bit touristy off course but that makes it easier on a short trip.
