XpatXperience / Lifestyle / Singapore Short Breaks

We are working on a new layout while 'live' on this and another few pages. Apologies for any error messages.

Singapore is a great place to live and work as an expat but it is rather small and if you have been here a while you may want to take a break from it now and again and visit somewhere else during a long weekend or short break. This page is not intended to help you plan a long holiday but rather gives some tips for 2 to 4-day getaways.

Where to go, what to do

You will be able to find almost anything you would want within a relatively short distance from Singapore. Having said this, it is hard to please everybody, you like to go golfing? (yes, but what about your wife), diving, shopping, doing nothing? Do you want to be pampered and be waited on or .... There are of course endless variations so don't be surprised if you can not find what you are looking for, but do let us know and you may find it next time.

Countries:

  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Cambodia

Types:

  • Beach Breaks
  • Shopping Breaks

You can easily get to most places via (budget) airline, see the related links, regularly with a complete package attached. Flying is off course not too good for your 'carbon footprint', and as an expatriate you're probably not doing great already. . .

An alternative is the bus, there are a number of bus organizations going to places like KL, Melaka and even till Thailand. The buses are very comfortable and some offer airplane like business class seats, including entertainment system.

Another option is the train. You can get to KL, Butterworth (for Penang Island) and Bangkok reasonably well but it does take a little time. Could be relaxing though!
