XpatXperience / Lifestyle / Singapore Theatres

Singapore is no New York or London when it comes to the theatre but has an interesting arts-scene. You will be able to visit, for instance, a traditional Spanish Flamenco performance as well as a traditional Chinese opera, there is little chance however of either of them running for months or years.

In 2002 Singapore´s Esplanade theatres were opened, a modern complex with 2 main halls for stage productions or music productions and where a long list of national and international plays and pieces are performed. Beside these there are number of smaller theatres and places like the indoor stadium or the convention centre where there are regular performances of various nature.

Though Singapore´s censorship rules and in general somewhat puritanical streak are sometimes cause for grumbling among the more passionate performing arts lovers the ‘general public’ can find a lot to entertain itself with.

Take a look in our events section for some upcoming performances or check our related links.
