This whole site is basically hoping to help you prepare for a life in Singapore as a foreigner and we hope you find some useful pages and information but first some generalities.
Singapore is a a small city-state in Asia and close to the equator but cannot easily be compared with other cities in its immediate vicinity. Singapore is clean, green (in terms of lots of trees etc.) relatively uncongested and efficient. It has a mix of races and religious indigenous to the island and a large and mixed population of ‘foreign workers’ ranging from unskilled labourers to highly skilled specialists in a number of fields.
Singapore is quite open and friendly but has strict rules and enforces them, many still remember the caning of a graffiti spraying American and the ban on chewing gum, the “Death to drug traffickers” sign on your immigration card should be another clear indication.
If you can live with the warmth and humidity and the occasional press of people it is an extremely attractive place to live with all modern facilities and conveniences pressed together and easily accessible as well as with many opportunities for travel.
Though there is no arguing personal preferences or taste living here is certainly worth considering and we hope you will be able to find the information you need to prepare on these pages.
